Alek's Controllable Halloween Decorations for Celiac Awareness

Posted by: Marissa on Oct. 20, 2009

There is a growing powerhouse in the quest for Celiac Awareness. An event that raises tens of thousands of dollars each year to The University of Maryland in an effort to help researchers find the answers they seek. No, this isn’t a parade, or corporately sponsored event. It’s one man, a supportive family, an accepting group of neighbors and a whole bunch of lights.

Alek Komarnitsky is the genius behind Alek’s Controllable Halloween Decorations for Celiac Disease, a fun and interactive display that gets bigger and better every year. The display is composed of thousands of lights and fun inflatables. Hulk and his twin brother, Hulk, make an appearance every year along with Frankenstein, Homer Simpson and the new guy on the block, the Headless Horseman.

Alek’s Controllable Halloween Lights are bright, lively and wind powered. As the name would suggest, they are also controllable...By you! When you log onto the site you get to have the power. Choose to turn on the lights, inflate The Hulk or leave it all dark and spooky!

Controlling the display is not the only fun offered here, there is also a Halloween blog which serves more as a forum, where you can join in with others who are enjoying the fun. The blog has a coffee shop type atmosphere where people from around the world greet each other and offer suggestions for Alek. The whole thing is fun and relaxed, encouraging commenters to become “regulars”.

Alek doesn’t accept donations for help with this extravaganza. He sees it as something he likes to do for the community. He does encourage those that want to give to donate to Celiac research. This he does in honor of his two sons, both with Celiac Disease.

Look to the top of the page to give recognition to the generous donors. Anyone who donates gets their few minutes of fame right above the lights. Alek doesn’t discriminate when it comes to generosity, donations from $1 to $1,000 are given the same grateful praise.

Wanna know how he does it? Find out by reading the incredibly detailed FAQ which even has a “geek” section to cover the logistics that make the display possible.

You can enjoy Alek’s controllable Halloween Lights through the month of October. Then it’s time to say goodbye to the Headless horseman, and make way for Santa! Stop in and have some fun. Do your part and make a donation! Even make a friend or two... You know you want to!
