Product Review: Glutino Spinach and Feta Pizza
On a scouting expedition through my parent’s freezer the other day I came across a Spinach and Feta Pizza by Glutino. I remembered hearing that there was a pizza in there for me, and I was very hungry. I began to debate exactly how hungry I was when I saw what flavor the pizza was. Feta and I are not really on speaking terms, and though I like spinach most of the time it is not always the best thing in the world. So, I thought for a minute and then decided that I owed it to research (and my empty stomach) to at least try the thing. Now I’m glad I did :)
First, I want to look at the preparation. I opened the box and took the pizza out. It was very little! Definitely a single serving. It had a pile of spinach in the middle covered with cheese. I think I was supposed to cook it right on the rack, but the spinach had crept over to the edge in one spot and I didn’t want to make a mess in the oven so I used a cookie sheet. The box says, “Ready in Minutes”. By that they mean 15-17 minutes. This gave me plenty of time to look over the rest of the box. Apparently, the Spinach and Feta Pizza is a good source of calcium, Vitamin A and iron. I’m more than okay with that!
Finally (hey, 15 minutes is a long time when you’re really hungry :) my pizza was ready. I cut it up into little wedges and took a deep breath. It was really good! The flavor reminded me of hot spinach and artichoke dip, which I love. The flavors blended very well. I could taste spinach, creamy cheese and garlic. The only complaint I have about this gluten free pizza is that the crust was crispy around the edges but really soggy in the middle. This may have been my fault for putting it on a cookie sheet, though. I’ll have to try again in my own oven where I’m not as worried about messes.
I do think that the price of the pizza was a bit high. It is $5.99 per pizza. Considering how small it is (6.2 ounces) it won’t make my grocery list every week. The flavor was good enough that I will buy it as an occasional treat.
Overall, I was very pleased with the Spinach and Feta Pizza from Glutino. I’ll take it as one more sign that good things really do come in small packages.
