Product Review: Orgran Gluten Free All Purpose Rice Crumbs
We are coming up on the Holiday Season, folks. This means that it is time to start gathering the needed ingredients for the many feasts we will soon be enjoying. Me? I’m a huge texture person. I love a creamy casserole with a crispy topping, or a nice golden-brown crumb coating on anything fried. For me, a holiday feast would not be possible without some attention to this kind of texture.
That is what brings us to Orgran Gluten Free All Purpose Rice Crumbs. Even those of us on a strict gluten free diet have a lot of choices when it comes to crumbs. We can use bread, gluten free corn flakes, just about anything. Each option offers a different texture and flavor profile.
Orgran Gluten Free All Purpose Rice Crumbs are made from nothing but baked brown rice. They are dairy free, egg free, yeast free, soy free, nut free and vegan. My first thought on opening the package is that they smell terrible. Seriously, my daughter actually recoiled. I’m a big believer in the correlation between smell and taste, so this was almost a no go. The crumbs came highly recommended, though, so I bit the bullet.
I’m pretty sure there is some magic in here somewhere. The smell had nothing to do with the taste! I have used these crumbs for frying and topping several times now and they absolutely clone the flavor that is mixed with them. For that reason, if you are going to fry you should be sure to use a good, flavorful oil.
The texture is just exquisite. The crumbs are so fine that they develop a perfect light and crisp crust. They coat evenly and yield consistent results. My favorite use was when I mixed them with parmesan cheese and garlic powder to coat chicken. The resulting meal was irresistible.
I’m declaring this a pantry staple for my house, and can honestly recommend that others do the same.
