Product Review: Schar Gluten Free Italian Breadsticks
I am in snacking heaven today, my friends. I was at Wal-Mart picking up some office supplies when I came across Schar Gluten Free Italian Breadsticks. (Okay, it IS true that these are not stocked anywhere near the office supplies, but no one can work with low blood sugar, right?) I have seen Schar Breadsticks advertised before, but have not yet been able to find them in a store. You know I had to grab them right away.
I paid over $5 for the package. This was not thrilling, but doable for new goodies to try. On opening the package I was happy to see three separate sealed packages. I consistently see this attention to freshness detail in all the products from Schar. It makes me feel like they care :)
I do have to say that in spite of the stay-fresh packaging, about 50% of the sticks were broken. I really didn’t mind since I was snacking in the car, but it might be something to consider when presentation is a factor.
My first bite of gluten free breadstick goodness delivered everything I was hoping for. The sticks are crispy-crunchy. The texture is very light, not a bit hard to chew. The flavor is also very light. It is mildly sweet - in the way that most good breads are.
Call me a geek, but my favorite thing about Schar Gluten Free Italian Breadsticks is that they have the “half effect”. When you bite into them they immediately and automatically split in half (length-wise, down the middle). This is something I have loved about breadsticks my whole life and I was so glad to see that it applied to gluten free breadsticks too.
I recommend everything about these breadsticks, except the price. They went entirely too fast to be a great value - Especially once I brought them home :)
