Product Review: Kettle Cuisine Roasted Vegetable Soup
I love this time of the year. There is a chill in the air, the leaves are changing… Yep, it’s the perfect weather for SOUP!
I suppose it’s time for me to confess that I am a total soup addict. All through the fall and winter I make huge pots of soup in every flavor. We pack the leftovers for lunches and always make sure to have plenty on hand.
We had an extremely long Indian summer here, so I hadn’t been stocking my fridge yet. Last week I was blindsided by a cold snap that left me chilly and in need of the happy soupy stuff. I was in my office away from the house, so making my own was not an option. I found myself prowling the freezer case in the gluten free section of the grocery store. That is where I found Kettle Cuisine Roasted Vegetable Soup.
I grabbed the frozen box like it was my lifeline. The soup is gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, full of nutrition and very clearly labeled – perfect!
I heated it for 4 minutes, then another minute. It was a lot thicker than I expected, more like a stew. It seems that the potatoes had given up their starch during the freezing process and created a whole new dish.
It was a good dish! The other vegetables added a ton of flavor, including the leeks which added a pleasant spiciness. I was very pleased with my choice.
You all know there always has to be a bit of a downside. The main thing here is salt. I realize that this is a personal preference, but I thought it could use a little more. The other factor to consider is price. I probably could have made a pot of veggie soup for just a little more than I paid for that one serving. In a pinch, though… What is one to do when they are away from their pots?
Overall, I definitely recommend this product. It was good enough to satisfy the biggest of soup addicts, and that is saying something.
