Product Review: LARABAR - Peanut Butter Cookie Flavor
It’s snack time again! As we all know, I love my snacks. What I love even more is a snack that is really healthy. I have been on a mission over the last year or so to make my snacking habit work for me instead of against me. In that time I have found a lot of snacks that were fairly healthy. There are plenty of good-for-you alternatives out there and most of them are pretty tasty.
LARABAR comes in at the top of this healthy snack list. They are made from whole food with a very short ingredient list. Along with being gluten free, they are dairy free, soy free, non-GMO, vegan and kosher.
I have tried a couple of the fruitier flavored LARABARS in the past and was very pleased with them. I was a little unsure about a bar made from fruit that is peanut butter cookie flavored. Guess what - it tastes like a peanut butter cookie! I was so surprised that I did a double take at the ingredients list and found only dates, peanuts and salt.
The dates and peanuts blend perfectly to create a great texture that makes me want to come back for more. The texture is chewy and a little bit sticky, not nearly as sticky as I would expect, however. The flavor and texture would be great for snacking in any season and any situation.
The bars are pretty small (1.7 oz.) and they are priced at almost $2 each. At that price you want to eat them slowly and savor every bite. They won’t fill you up, but they won’t fill you with snacker’s remorse either.
In the end, I’m really torn on this product. I love it enough to eat it all the time, but my budget says that I cannot. It’s enough to make me launch into a soapbox of how sad it is that eating right is so much more expensive.... but we’ll leave that for another time :)
