Product Review: Schar Chocolate Hazelnut Bars
I love to visit new grocery stores. Each one orders goods based on what will sell best in the immediate area. This means that the selection will vary quite a bit, even among stores from the same chain.
I mention this just in case you are on the lookout for new gluten free goodies to try. I discover something new at each store I visit, and enjoy exploring the different gluten free sections. Most of the products I review are found in this way; wandering through different stores and picking up things that sound fun at the time.
I found Schar Chocolate Hazelnut Bars on my most recent excursion. As a general rule, I am fond of Schar. First of all, they always have great quality. Secondly, most of the snacks from Schar are individually packaged which makes them handy for sharing and traveling.
Chocolate Hazelnut Bars are no exception. I’m not sure how well they’d travel on a long haul since they are pretty fragile, but they are perfect for snacking or packing in lunches.
Each large package contains three large bars. That is not a lot of quantity for the price, but worth picking up if you are looking for a very special treat.
I would buy these over and over again for the texture alone. Each bar is made up of thin, crispy wafers layered with hazelnut cream and coated in rich, creamy chocolate. Sounds good, right?
They are! The wafers are light, crisp and airy. The cream is fluffy and ever so creamy. Don’t even get me started on the chocolate….
The overall effect of the bar is a feeling of pure bliss. The flavor is sweet without being too sugary which is something I love. I did notice a slightly odd aftertaste with the first bar I ate, but didn’t notice it with the second one a day later. I look forward to trying a third time to be sure :) (I did mention the unbelievable texture, right?)
