Product Review: Namaste Foods Gluten Free Waffle and Pancake Mix
I have no suitable introduction for this post. Apparently I am having an off day… What I do have is an epiphany to share with you all. (Oh, and I know this photo is not the best quality - all I have is my camera on my phone. I needed the picture to illustrate my story though.)
I was very excited to find this mix from Namaste. I tried a cookie mix from this company awhile back and loved it, but haven’t been able to find much more from this brand. So I brought the bag home and showed it to my daughter, expecting her to see it for the treasure it was.
She had a two part reaction - first was, “Cool.” Then came, “TWO whole batches, huh?” Her tone carried a very admirable amount of sarcasm, complete with the snicker that accompanies this level of mockery.
I was taken aback. I looked at her, looked at the bag, and responded with a very lame, “Yes, good deal.”
Then it hit me. I had just paid almost $7.00 for a bag of waffle mix that only made two batches - and I was HAPPY about it! After all, I had noticed that the bag advertised this incredible amount. I thought it was a pretty good deal since most gluten free mixes offer much less… It left me wondering how I completely missed it when I mentally redefined the word “bargain” upon entering the gluten free world.
This is not to put Namaste Foods in a bad light. On the contrary, it really is not a bad deal when compared to other products on the market. I just wanted to share this moment with all of you, my friends on the gluten free journey…. Now, on to the actual review.
Namaste Foods Gluten Free Waffle and Pancake Mix results in the best waffle texture I’ve had in a very long time. The waffles are firm and crunchy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. I couldn’t get enough!
Unfortunately, the flavor did not match up to the standards that the texture set. It was just plain bland. My first thought was that they desperately needed some butter…and syrup. This may seem normal to you, but I am known for eating my waffles plain. I’m not sure that will work with these. Luckily there is no BAD flavor, so with a small amount of extra flavor they were quite delicious.
I would love to tell you how the pancakes turned out - but I can’t. We are saving batch number two for this weekend. Don’t want to have all the fun at once, right?
