Product Review: Bakery on Main Gourmet Naturals Extreme Fruit and Nut Granola

Posted by: Marissa on May 27, 2011

Bakery on Main has created quite a product with this Extreme Fruit and Nut Granola. It is made up of puffed corn disks, rice puffs, fruit, nuts and seeds. With all of this in a single bite, you can imagine that there is a lot to make a mouth happy.

The package tells me there is a lot to make the sensible side of my brain happy too. This granola is trans fat free, dairy free, gluten and wheat free (certified), cholesterol free, casein free and low in saturated fat and sodium.

Honey and fruit are immediately recognizable as being the secret behind the lightly sweet flavor, though the ingredients tell me that there is evaporated cane juice in the mix as well. The flavors of all the different components blended together very well. I was surprised at how balanced it was. They did a really good job of making sure there was just the right amount of each ingredient.

The textures worked well together too. I loved the puffed corn disks for their soft crunch. The rice puffs were the same size as the sunflower seeds and offered more nice crunch. The only problem I had was when I bit into the occasional hard spot. Maybe it was a seed that was too roasted, maybe it was a shell fragment. All I know is that I would be happily crunching away and catch something hard enough to be painful to my teeth. There wasn’t enough of this to keep me from going back for more, though.

Tasty and healthy as this gluten free granola is, I do think the price is a bit high. The bag contains 12 oz. for around $6. This doesn’t work very well with my budgeting side, but I can’t call it completely unreasonable either.

In the end, I can report that this is a tasty, well balanced mix that will also prove pretty versatile. I will probably buy it again, but not make a special trip for it.
