Product Review: Sweet Baby Ray’s Original Barbecue Sauce

Posted by: Marissa on June 28, 2011

Summer is the height of barbecue season. Living in Kansas City, you can’t go anywhere without hearing tips on great barbecue from some of the pros. Truth be told, though, I am so picky about my barbecue that I may be in danger of having my KC card revoked.

Don’t get me wrong, the smoking, grilling and roasting are okay. It’s the sauce that gets me. Some sauces are so tangy and full of vinegar that I just can’t bring myself to go back for seconds. Others are bold, but they don’t have that perfect mix of sweet and spicy that I love.

When I went gluten free, I didn’t spend a whole lot of time seeking a good barbecue sauce. I was pretty well accustomed to living without it. I have tried a couple but none of them convinced me that barbecue sauce was a necessity in life - until now.

Sweet Baby Ray’s Original Barbecue Sauce is amazing! It has the perfect blend of spice and sweet. It has a bold and strong flavor with none of the bitterness or vinegar burn that I have had in the past. The sweetness grabs your taste buds and gives them a big kiss.

I tried Sweet Baby Ray’s when I was having dinner at my sister’s house. I poured a little bit on my sandwich, took a bite and said, “MMMMM”. My sister looked sagely across the table at me and replied, “I know, right?” I not only went back for seconds, but I even grabbed a very small helping of thirds.

Living in Kansas City has taught me that barbecue sauce is as personal a choice as the type of shoes you wear. There really is something out there for everyone. For me, when it comes to barbecue sauce, I’m going with Sweet Baby Ray’s from here on out.
