Product Review: Udi’s Classic Hot Dog Buns

Udi’s has done it again! My favorite gluten free bread geniuses have created a hot dog bun that I like much better than the hot dog buns I ate before going gluten free. Like most of Udi’s offerings, these hot dog buns are dairy free, certified gluten free and kosher. They also have the added benefit of 3g of fiber and 4g protein per serving.

The buns are firm, yet soft. They have a nice crust on the outside that lets you know immediately that it won’t rip right though. The interior (crumb) is also pretty firm. It is slightly dense (like Italian bread). I like the fact that they are not the super soft white bread texture of most hot dog buns. Those always tended to create a mealy texture in my mouth.

The flavor is nothing to complain about either. They tasted like yummy bread - that’s it. There was no bad aftertaste or strange flavor there at all.

Each package contains six buns. Out of the package I had I used two for hot dogs, two for BBQ sammiches and two for bread sticks. I was able to fit two hot dogs on each bun (they are pretty large). For the BBQ I cut the buns in half to be roll size. The bread sticks I brushed with olive oil, sprinkled with herbs and baked.

All three of these meals were equally delicious. I am very pleased with the performance and versatility of these gluten free hot dog buns. I will gladly recommend them to anyone.
