Product Review: Chebe Pizza Crust Mix
Few things in life make my daughter as happy as when she finds out we are having pizza for dinner. I don’t make it at home very often since so many gluten free pizza crusts are either expensive or time consuming. I think I have found a new favorite with Chebe, since it is neither.
Ease of Use
Chebe Pizza Crust mix is a very straight forward mix and go meal. This is the easiest gluten free pizza crust mix I have found. There is no wait time for rising or resting.
You just have to combine cheese, two eggs, two tablespoons oil, 1/4 cup liquid and the mix. This does take a bit of doing. The mix is very dry and takes a lot of kneading to get it into a dough ball. You also have to resist the urge to add more liquid. Resist! The dough does come together and the finished product will not be as good if there is too much liquid.
After the dough is mixed you pat the dough into the pan, top it and bake it for 15-18 minutes.
Appearance
The mix has herbs in it (yum!) so that shows through the crust. Other than that, it looks like crust. It is golden brown and solid.
Taste and Texture
I love the flavor of this pizza crust mix. Between the herbs in the mix and the cheese I added it was delicious! I used 1/2 Parmesan and 1/2 colby-jack cheese. The flavor really pops! It reminded me of a cheese cracker.
The outside edges of the crust were crispy/hard. The inside of the pizza (under the toppings) was soft and slightly wet, dense and chewy. The crust was firm enough that you could pick up the pizza and eat it by the slice, no fork required.
Versatility
You can make this crust with any kind of cheese and use it for anything. It would make great crackers, croutons, rolls, breadsticks and, of course, crust.
Overall Value
This gluten free pizza crust mix costs just around $3 a box (depending on where you buy, taxes, etc.) It is endlessly versatile and very tasty. I call that good value!
Rating
I love it! I will buy it again and again.
