Product Review: Mini Pops
A couple weeks ago, I was offered a chance to sample Mini Pops. Considering my love of all things snacky, there was no way I could turn that down! So I received four bags from the company - and have been in Mini Pops bliss since then :)
Mini Pops are a great new concept. They are made from popped sorghum grains. These little bitty pieces look just like popcorn except they get the reaction, “Oh, how cute!” from everyone who sees them. I love it!
Mini Pops taste just like popcorn too, only a little better. They have a deeper corn flavor (strange, since they are corn free). The bags hold a very generous amount. I love having a snack that I can munch while I work and when I look over there is still a lot in the bag.
The package has a heavy emphasis on the benefits of Mini Pops over popcorn. They are lower in saturated fat, higher in iron, high in fiber, have fewer calories and more protein. My favorite thing in the comparison is that Mini Pops don’t leave trash in the mouth! That’s right, they are missing the hulls that can stick in the teeth and gums with popcorn.
Another comparison that may be unique to me is the way I feel after eating Mini Pops. Popcorn sometimes leaves me with an empty, yet full, yet unsatisfied feeling. I didn’t get that while eating these.
I should warn you that since they are air popped, they are a bit more bland than a lot of snack foods and store bought popcorn. I haven’t tried every flavor (yet) but I have noticed this about the ones I have tried.
Overall, I can gladly recommend Mini Pops as a healthy snack. I have enjoyed them and will be looking for them on store shelves in the future.

Its not the sorghum that's bland, its their recipe. They underseason and what I've tried tasted stale. I've tried another brand that's available in my area called Popghum - I think they get it right - not bland at all - their sea salt flavor is nutty and buttery tasting (no butter, though, of course).
