Product Review: Pop Drizzle Dark Chocolate Caramel
This week Hubby came home from the grocery store with a product that made D.D. and I both drool with anticipation. In concept it was simple: Popcorn and nuts drizzled with (you guessed it!) dark chocolate and caramel. I had to pry the bag out of D.D.’s hands to get her to focus on dinner. How’s that for shelf appeal?
Ease of Use
Pop Drizzle comes in a tall plastic bag with a re-closeable seal. Enjoyment is as simple as ripping off the top and breaking the seal. You do have to watch out for chocolate fingers, though.
Appearance
As the introduction would indicate, this stuff looks good! The popcorn is large, white and very fluffy looking. Every piece is fully coated with a clear, sugary glaze. Over the glaze is a generous drizzle of dark chocolate followed by another drizzle of caramel. Mixed in with the popcorn pieces you can find whole almonds, pecans and peanuts.
Taste and Texture
Oh my goodness gracious! This stuff tasted as good as it looked! (Notice I used the past tense. Once the bag was opened it took less than 24 hours to disappear.) I thought that between the glaze and the drizzles that this would be a super sweet snack. It was, but not in the overpowering way. There was just enough salt in the mix to keep it from being too much.
The chocolate was great. It was the kind of chocolate that stays put in the package but melts as soon as it touches your fingertips. The caramel was so much better than I could have hoped. Usually caramel that is used as a coating is a bit powdery/artificial. This wasn’t. It was the kind of solid caramel that you would find in a box of chocolates. It added a chewy texture to the popcorn that was phenomenal.
The popcorn and the nuts were both crunchy. I loved the blend of textures and the fact that there was no sogginess to be found anywhere.
Versatility
You could sprinkle this on any number of things - but I wouldn’t. I liked it for just what it was.
Overall Value
This category makes me very sad inside. The 8oz. bag that lasted less than a day in my house runs about $6. As much as I loved Pop Drizzle, the price is enough to make me not run right out and buy any more. Definitely something to keep in mind for the days when some special snacking is in order.
Rating
I loved it. It took a force of will to save some to share with the rest of the family.
