Product Review: Pure Naturals Superfruit Nutty Crunch Bar

Posted by: Marissa on Sept. 6, 2011

We have another bar to try today! I love the title of “Superfruit”! It always makes me think of a cartoon apple in a cape. I’m sure he’s holding something very nutritious and saying something like, “Remember kids, your health is in your hands!” In the case of this bar, superfruit apparently refers to a mix of cranberries, blueberries and pomegranates.

Pure Naturals Superfruit Nutty Crunch Bar contains 5g protein and 5g fiber. It is also certified gluten free.

Ease of Use

Normally I would put something sarcastic here to highlight how easy it is to eat a ready made bar. This time, though, I have to warn you that this bar is a bit sticky. It didn’t want to be parted from it’s wrapper. When I did get it loose and took a bite it (predictably) stuck to my teeth a bit.

Appearance

This is the kind of bar that I would classify as a “trail mix bar”. It is all nuts, seeds and fruit stuck together in bar form. It has a clear, shiny coating on it that holds the whole thing together. Yes, this is the sticky part.

Taste and Texture

Have I mentioned that this bar is sticky? The nuts add a bit of crunch to the texture but the fruit blends in with the clear, shiny stuff. The texture is good, and definitely leaves a bit in your mouth to be pried out with toothpicks later.

This bar is sweet and nutty. I can taste the sunflower seeds, almonds and peanuts in every bite. I like the sweet flavor, but am missing a bit of the tangy that should be here with this kind of fruit. I also notice that the sweet flavor has a hint of the artificial in it. In looking at the ingredients I can’t quite figure out why, but it is there and stays on the tongue.

Versatility

This bar is made for travel and convenience. The versatility comes from the many places you can take it to enjoy it.

Overall Value

The price for Pure Naturals Superfruit Nutty Crunch Bar is a very do-able $1.69 for a 1.5 oz bar.

Rating

I like this bar, but it didn’t make my list of favorites. I think I would have to carry wet wipes with me to get the sticky off my fingers when I was done eating.
