Product Review: Sweet Heat Pop Crickle

Posted by: Marissa on Oct. 6, 2011

Sweet Heat is the second to the last of the Pop Crickle flavors that I will be sharing with you. It is an intriguing mix of popcorn, peanuts, candy coating and cayenne pepper.

Ease of Use

This gluten free snack is easy to eat and easy to store (thanks to the re-sealable bag). You might want to keep a drink handy for the “heat” aspect while you eat it.

Appearance

In this bag you will see fluffy white popcorn covered in a shiny golden glaze and specked with red bits of pepper. There are also plenty of peanuts in the mix.

Taste and Texture

The textures in this bag are perfect. The popcorn is crunchy. The glaze is light and crispy, not sticky. The peanuts are, well, peanuts. This stuff has a texture that begs to be eaten by the handful.

The flavor is something brand new to me. On first bite you have the flavors of peanuts, popcorn and sweetness - in that order. About halfway through chewing the bite a warmth spreads through the mouth and hits the tongue and the back of the throat. The spice is from powdered pepper so it doesn’t have the staying power of oil. It fades just enough to prepare you for the next bite.

This is not the most balanced flavor I have ever had from Pop Crickle. There is a big emphasis on the peanut and cayenne flavors and only a light sweetness.

Versatility

The only real versatility I found in this bag was that there was just enough spice to help clear my sinuses a bit as I snacked. (Allergy season, you know.)

Overall Value

You get an 8oz. bag for $6.99. For that I will probably choose another flavor.

Rating

This is not my favorite Pop Crickle. The bold peanut flavor throws off the balance a bit too much for me.
