Product Review: Ener G Small Shells

Posted by: Marissa on Nov. 30, 2011

Well, I decided to branch out of my comfort zone this week and try something new. I love mini shell shaped pasta. The texture is awesome and I love the full effect of little cups of sauce. I have a long standing dislike of rice pasta, however, and that does not appear to be changing.

This pasta has an impressive list on the bag. It is wheat free, gluten free, dairy free, corn free, soy free, sodium free, fat free and cholesterol free. In short, it is very allergen friendly and can be served to a wide range of dietary needs.

Ease of Use

This pasta is easy to make. It boils for about 7 minutes and is ready for sauce.

Appearance

These little shells are bright white with cute little ribs. They are perfectly bite sized.

Taste and Texture

Ener G Small Shells have a wonderful texture. They are not mushy at all and offer a great bite. They have a classic rice pasta flavor, though, which is not a good thing to me. There is an odd aftertaste that makes it’s way through any sauce and stays on the tongue.

Versatility

The bite sized shape makes this gluten free pasta great for just about any casserole.

Overall Value

The bag offers a large 16oz. for just over $3. That is excellent value.

Rating

Though the texture and value are about as perfect as you can get, I can’t get past the flavor of the rice pasta. I won’t buy it again, but anyone who needs an allergen free pasta, or just likes the rice flavor, will love it.
