Product Review: Riega Foods Alfredo Sauce Mix

Posted by: Marissa on Nov. 18, 2011

A couple weeks ago I did a review for Riega Foods White Cheddar Cheese Sauce. In that review I said how much I enjoyed the sauce, it was a perfect example of what powdered mac and cheese sauce should be.

After the review, I was contacted by Riega Foods with an offer to sample the other flavors they offer. I was really excited to accept the offer. First off, the company is located in my hometown; secondly, I hadn’t seen the other flavors in a store and really wanted to try them. I was sent a generous box of samples and (get ready for the disclaimer:) though I was sent samples for free to try I am under no obligation to provide a favorable review… But I’m going to anyway.

Ease of Use

This sauce is incredibly easy to make. Whisk the powder with 1/4 cup of milk, heat it a bit and add it to your favorite pasta. That’s it. I added butter to mine to make it extra rich, but that is an optional step. The Alfredo Sauce Mix packet says to use only 6 oz. of pasta, so you may need to use two packages to feed the family.

Appearance

The sauce is a creamy white color with flecks of green spread throughout. It’s pretty!

Taste and Texture

I have to admit that I expected this sauce to taste a lot like the white cheese sauce. I was so wrong. The flavor of the Alfredo was rich and bold. It had earthy undertones and a depth of flavor that really surprised me. The texture was pure creaminess. It was absolutely delicious.

Versatility

Since this is a mix there are so many options for using it. When I tried the sauce today I skipped the pasta and added the sauce to some leftover rice and mixed veggies I had in the fridge. It was awesome! I can’t wait to try more flavor combinations in the future. I think I will try making a dip from it next time by adding the powder to cream cheese.

Overall Value

This is my favorite part of the Riega Foods Alfredo Sauce. Each package only costs $1.50. Even if you have to use two packages you can feed a small family for under ten dollars, and that’s including the cost of pasta.

Rating

I adore this sauce mix. Riega Foods is two for two in the sauces I love category. I have high hopes for the other two flavors.
