Product Review: Riega Foods White Cheddar Cheese Sauce Mix

Tonight I am in powdered cheese heaven. Think of it as the cheese packet from a box of mac and cheese, just with a prettier label.

Ease of Use

This is incredibly fast and easy to make. You just mix the packet with 1/4 cup of milk and pour over pasta or veggies. I love the fact that the instructions tell me to enjoy and be merry.

The only issue I had is that I had to measure out 1 1/2 cups of pasta for the sauce to go on. The measuring doesn’t bother me, just the fact that there was not enough pasta left in the box for anything more than a light snack. I would’ve just used the whole box but then there wouldn’t have been enough cheese to go around. This was a VERY minor issue, though, I will happily snack on the leftover pasta.

Appearance

The package contains a small amount of white powder. Once the sauce is made and mixed with pasta you can’t really see it at all.

Taste and Texture

Riega Foods White Cheddar Cheese Sauce Mix tastes just like the white cheddar mac and cheese mixes I remember from the gluten filled days. The sauce is creamy and rich - very smooth. The flavor was cheesy, mild and delicious with no trace of anything grainy or odd to be found.

Versatility

Since this is just a sauce mix it can be added to just about anything. Use it in a casserole, over veggies or in any other recipe. The mild flavor would make it excellent to mix with spaghetti sauce for a cheesy tomato cream flavor.

Overall Value

The sauce mix comes in at just under $1.50. I love the price as much as the sauce itself.
