Product Review: Progresso Traditional Potato Broccoli & Cheese Chowder
I was really excited when I saw this soup awhile back in Progresso’s gluten free soup listing. There are few things on this earth that make me as happy as a good broccoli-cheese soup, and potatoes are always a bonus. I had a hard time finding it in my regular grocery store, however, so I only got the chance to try it recently. Here’s an added tidbit for you - Traditional Potato Broccoli & Cheese Chowder is clearly labeled gluten free, but not all of Progresso’s gluten free soups are labeled this way. You can get the full listing of gluten free soups on their website.
Ease of Use
This soup is really easy, just heat and eat. There is even a pop-top on the can so you don’t need a can opener.
This is a thick, cream soup, light orange in color, with small pieces of broccoli and potato hiding in it.
Taste and Texture
The soup is as creamy as it looks. Unfortunately, I have to say that the texture of the chowder base was about the only thing I really liked about this soup. It had an odd flavor to it, almost bitter? I can’t put my finger on it. The potatoes were artificially solid and the bits of broccoli were either hard stalk or mush. Not that there was much broccoli there to complain about.
I do have to say, though, that when D.D. tried it she liked it. She even said she would get it again.
Cans of soup are always versatile if you’re creative. I could see this one making a very nice chicken bake or casserole.
You can get a large (18 oz.) can of soup for under $3.
I was disappointed with this soup. I won’t buy it again…At least not for myself.
