Product Review: Baker’s Corner Gluten Free Baking Mix

Posted by: Marissa on June 11, 2013

This gluten free baking mix is the Aldi Brand all purpose mix. It is gluten free and lactose free.

Ease of Use

In the grand tradition of all purpose baking mixes, Baker’s Corner Gluten Free Baking Mix is very easy to use. The recipes on the box require only a few items that most people will have on hand: oil, eggs, shortening, milk, etc.

The mix itself is a very fine white powder. The biscuits I made with it were slightly golden in color and had brown, crispy edges.

Taste and Texture

The flavor of the mix is good, but a little flat. I would recommend adding a bit of salt to the recipes. The texture was also good. Everything I’ve made with the mix has been fluffy with a good crumb. The bite is a little bit grainier than some of the name brand mixes I have tried.

This is my favorite category and why I always have a mix like this on hand. Just using the recipes on the box you can make pancakes, waffles, shortcakes, biscuits and pizza crust. There are a ton of other things you can make by experimenting on your own or finding other recipes online. You won’t get more than one or two recipes out of the same box, however…

Overall Value

The mix comes in a small 16oz box (about the same size as the most popular mix out there). The lovely part is that this mix costs only $2.99 per box. Not bad at all!

This mix has a good enough taste and texture, and the perfect price, to be a pantry staple at my house.
