Wow! A new year...2010...time for some new goals!

Posted by: valeriefender on Jan. 1, 2010

Why is it that we all feel so compelled to set new goals at the turning of a year? I try very hard not to make the typical "New Years Resolution". So many of these resolutions get forgotten in a matter of days or weeks, if we are extremely determined. How many of these resolutions do we actually "believe" we can stick with? Honestly, I'm not saying that setting a goal for a new year is a bad thing. We all need to learn, grow and change. It is a part of living. Making sure you are setting goals that are realistic is the key.

Before the New Year, I heard a man on the radio say that the average person only sticks with a resolution for an unbelievably short period of time. I wish that I could remember the exact number, but it was something like five days! Can you believe that? I'm sure that most of you are able to stick with a resolution farther into the year than that. Personally, I have managed to reach some of the "goals" that I've set for myself, so anyone can!

So, what are some of your goals for this new year? My list of goals spans a variety of areas of my life and my family's. Some financial goals, the typical pay off a bill and home improvement things. I also have some personal goals including the usual health and fitness goals that everyone seems to start this time of year.

As far as the gluten-free part of my life there are many! How about you? Is there a dish you have been longing to find a gluten-free version of? How about an old family favorite that you have tried but are not thrilled with the result of? Me too!

In 2009 I was able to reach some very exciting, at least to my family, culinary goals. We have been on this journey for several years now, but there is never an end to the ideas that seem to come to my mind. Yes, I do dream about food, all kinds of side and main dishes, pastries, cookies, muffins, casseroles and breads! OK, I'll admit it, I love to cook. I also love a challenge, so I guess this whole gluten-free journey is well suited to me, even if I do have times that I wish I could just make a loaf of whole wheat bread!

My hope for this year, is that you will become more than just a reader of my blog. That you will get involved, share and that we will all learn from each other! One of the beautiful things about Gling is that we are a community of people all looking for the same thing...wonderful gluten-free food. Food that will satisfy that craving for what we have been missing since going gluten-free, for whatever reason.

It matters very little "why" you have chosen to avoid gluten. I am in no way, trying to sound uncaring by saying that. My point is, that we can all learn from each other here and learn to cook delicious, nutritious, gluten-free foods for our families. Whether you are suffering fromCeliac, a gluten intolerance or just avoiding gluten for dietary reasons, there is always something to learn, teach and share!

That is what makes Gling such a wonderful place. There are all kinds of sites on line that you can find recipes on, or information on gluten related issues. There is no place that I have found, and believe me I have looked, where you can get everything you need in one place!

This is going to be a wonderful year, I just know it! Many goals will be set and reached. You will be making outstanding gluten-free meals for your friends and family. The best part of the year is that Gling will be here to help! We will all learn together how to better navigate this gluten-free journey we have found ourselves on.

Have a wonderful start to this new year! Happy New Year!
