Father's Day...make dad a special treat!

Posted by: valeriefender on June 16, 2010

Dad's do so much for their family's, much of it goes unnoticed. Father's Day is our chance to give dad a break, make him feel special and tell him thank you for all he's done. What dad doesn't love a tasty meal, a batch of cookies or a to die for dessert? I know the dad in our house loves all of the above!

Tradition seems to say to break out the grill and have a wonderful meal created in your own back yard. What could be better? A thick, juicy steak, or perhaps a tasty burger. What about grilled chicken or sea food? The options are limitless and all quite tasty!

Aside from the coals and cooking surface of your grill, a marinade can make or break a good piece of meat. Finding a good one is not hard, there are many options here on Gling! Once you have chosen dad's favorite meat and pick a marinade you can move on to side dishes.

A salad works well with most any meal. Another thought is a potato dish. From simple potatoes that are seasoned with butter, salt and pepper, to a creamy potato dish. Potato salad is always a winner in my house. If you are looking for something a little more on the fancy side, how about twice baked potatoes? Any of these ideas would make dad happy, I'm sure.

Bread can also be an important part of your meal. So many amazing recipes to try here on Gling from bread baked in your oven to bread machine recipes.

For many dad's, the highlight of the meal may be the dessert. Here at my house, dessert is often what everyone is looking forward to more than anything else. Does dad enjoy fruit cobblers? How about a cake? Carrot cake is always a winner.

No matter what choices you make for your Father's Day meal, the dad of your household will feel loved and appreciated! Get the kids involved in the cooking and preparations for the meal. Maybe giving each child a special part of the meal, or a dish that they prepare all on their own if they are old enough and able to take that on. Dad will appreciate it and you will too!

Enjoy your Father's Day and all that goes into celebrating your Dad and all he does! If you are a dad...thank you! You play a very important roll in raising your family. Have a very blessed day!
