This was so easy to make, something I'd wanted to try for years and thought it would be too hard. Super easy! My kids are SO excited to try these.

Ingredients
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
red food coloring (however much you need to achieve the color you desire)
6 8 apples, washed, dried and stems removed
6 8 sticks
Instructions
Mix sugar, water and cream of tartar in a medium sauce pan. Put on medium high heat with a candy thermometer positioned in the center of the fluid level. While the sugar is boiling, prep your apples. Boil sugar mixture until it reaches hard crack (300 degrees). Once it reaches that temperature, immediately add red food coloring and stir. Quickly dip the apples, twisting to cover. Allow excess to drain back into the sauce pan. Place on a greased cookie sheet to harden. You must work quickly, this sugar “candy” hardens quickly. I had a hard time not ending up with bubbles all over my apples, but the end result was pretty either way.
