I found this great sorbet recipe a couple of years ago and my kids love it! It’s easy to make and tasty enough to serve to guests. And it has orange and pineapple juice in it (two allergies my son does not have), so I can sneak fruit into their diets without them knowing! |

Celiac Disease and Pregnancyhttp://www.jensglutenfreeblog.com/gluten-free-health/celiac-disease-and-pregnancy/
Pregnancy is a much talked about issue in the gluten-free community. Many are all too well aware that undiagnosed celiac disease can lead to fertility issues. Firstly, women with undiagnosed celiac disease often have delayed onset of menstruation and early onset of menopause reducing their opportunity for pregnancy. Throw in the unpredictable menstrual cycles and you have significantly reduced your chance of getting pregnant. In fact, according to the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness, up to 39% of women with undiagnosed celiac disease do not even get their periods. |

Julie Discusses Veganism and Celiac Diseasehttp://www.jensglutenfreeblog.com/hot-topics/veganism-and-celiac-disease/
I remember what it was like being a child with multiple food allergies. I was allergic to eggs, nuts, fish, and seeds. I felt excluded at birthday parties, recess, and other social events despite my mother’s attempts at making delicious egg-free alternatives. A celiac child undoubtedly feels the same way to a certain extent. There is nothing anyone can do about that. But by adding even more limitations, a parent will be making it significantly worse. A GF Mom learns about veganism the hard way!http://www.jensglutenfreeblog.com/hot-topics/some-common-misconceptions-about-veganism/
I want to start by thanking all of you who responded to the vegan blogs. I learned a lot about veganism from reading your comments, and I admit that I have had a change of heart regarding certain issues. The most important thing that I have learned, however, is that both the vegan and the non-vegan world harbor misconceptions about each other that can create animosity. |

Celiac Disease and Anemiahttp://www.jensglutenfreeblog.com/gluten-free-health/anemia-and-celiac-disease/
Anyone out there enjoy crunching on ice? I recently read that there are people who are unable to give up the ice-crunching habit. They are simply addicted to it. It has caused teeth and jaw problems, but they relent. If you know someone like that, take her or him to get blood tests. This is one of the classic symptoms of anemia and anemia can be caused by celiac disease. http://www.jensglutenfreeblog.com/gluten-free-health/anemia-and-celiac-disease/ |

A Great Starter Celiac Book For Those First Few Weekshttp://www.jensglutenfreeblog.com/gluten-free-books/a-great-book-for-those-first-few-weeks/
Remember that first week after your celiac diagnosis? Perhaps you have actively wiped it out of your memory, but I still have vivid nightmares about it. I remember leaving the doctor’s office thinking that I simply needed to take certain baked goods out of Amy’s diet. And then I got home and Googled it. Then I went to my kitchen and searched through my pantry. When it was all over I just sat down and cried. I recently read a great book that successfully fulfills all of those requirements. |

Finding a Gluten Free Restaurant couldn’t be easier
What is Celiac Disease Celiac disease is a medical condition where the surface of the small intestine is damaged by the gluten found in grains such as wheat, rye, and barley. This damage makes the intestine incapable of absorbing the nutrients required to give your body the nourishment it needs to stay healthy. The only known cure for celiac disease it to abstain from eating foods that contain gluten, for the rest of your life. Gluten and wheat are contained in many foods. Obviously bread and pasta contain gluten but in other foods the gluten is much less obvious. For example, most soy sauce contains wheat, so consuming food with soy sauce that contains wheat, will make Celiacs ill.
