When I was told I had irritable bowel syndrome the doctor explained to me that it was a psychosomatic manifestation of my stress. She then advised me to do more exercise to get rid of my stress, gave me some pills to take away the pain, and tried to send me home. When I interrupted her to explain that IBS is not caused by stress, it is the cause of my stress, she rolled her eyes and repeated herself two octaves louder. So I went home.

Julie hears that her old friend's son was diagnosed with autism and that she had become a consultant. She was training families with autistic children to institute a special diet – a gluten-free casein-free diet – that was supposed to help kids with autism. Julie Discusses Veganism and Celiac Disease

I remember what it was like being a child with multiple food allergies. I was allergic to eggs, nuts, fish, and seeds. I felt excluded at birthday parties, recess, and other social events despite my mother’s attempts at making delicious egg-free alternatives. A celiac child undoubtedly feels the same way to a certain extent. There is nothing anyone can do about that. But by adding even more limitations, a parent will be making it significantly worse. A Great Starter Celiac Book For Those First Few Weeks

Remember that first week after your celiac diagnosis? Perhaps you have actively wiped it out of your memory, but I still have vivid nightmares about it. I remember leaving the doctor’s office thinking that I simply needed to take certain baked goods out of Amy’s diet. And then I got home and Googled it. Then I went to my kitchen and searched through my pantry. When it was all over I just sat down and cried. I recently read a great book that successfully fulfills all of those requirements.

Quick and easy snacks on the go...

Being a busy mom of three kids still living at home, I'm always looking for good, nutritious snacks for my kids for those times we are on the go. Another factor in that is our budget. Fruit is always a good portable snack, but often I find that my kids need more substance to their snack. I have made some gluten-free granola bars, with mixed success. Any other ideas out there? I'm always looking for better ways to stretch my budget and feed my busy family.
